Bring the authentic flavor of the Peruvian high jungle to your garden with our live Tingo María Papaya plant (Carica papaya). Originating from the lush valleys of Tingo María in Huánuco, Peru, this prized regional selection is renowned for producing medium-to-large fruits with remarkably sweet, low-musk, deep reddish-orange flesh and a smooth, melting texture.

Unlike standard commercial papayas, the Tingo María variety is valued for its concentrated sugar content, pleasant tropical fragrance, and early, heavy-bearing habit—often setting fruit low on the trunk within its first year of growth. Our young plants are well-established in 1-gallon nursery containers with healthy root systems, ready to thrive in your warm garden bed or a large patio container.

Features

– Prized Peruvian selection: Famous for extra-sweet, aromatic reddish-orange flesh.
– Fast-fruiting & prolific: Precocious grower that sets fruit low on the trunk.
– Container size: 1 Gallon.
– Culinary favorite: Ideal for eating fresh, tropical fruit salads, juices, and traditional smoothies.

How to Care & Grow

1. Planting & Soil: Plant in very well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic compost. Papayas are sensitive to standing water—planting on a slight mound is recommended in heavy soils.
2. Sunlight: Thrives in full sun (6 to 8+ hours daily) for maximum growth and fruit sweetness.
3. Watering: Water regularly during warm, active growing periods to keep the soil lightly moist, and reduce watering during cooler winter months.
4. Climate & Protection: Best suited for tropical and warm subtropical climates (USDA Zones 9b–11). Protect young plants from frost and strong cold winds.
